What was covered in this live
In this webinar, Cédric Tumminello (Hello Mira) talks with Marion Geyres, a web writer, content creator and traveller who specialises in travelling with an invisible disability. Marion lives with a rare form of diabetes diagnosed in her teens, autism without intellectual disability, and dyspraxia. Together, they show that an invisible disability does not have to stop you from travelling, as long as you prepare.
Marion describes the shock of her diagnoses and what helped her bounce back: daring to talk about it, getting to know herself, finding the right health professionals, and returning to travel step by step, from a week in Spain all the way to Asia. Cédric also shares his experience of travelling after a heart attack, and explains how he takes his medication at a fixed time, around 2 pm, to limit adjustments for time differences.
On the practical side, they cover the sunflower lanyard, which discreetly signals an invisible disability at airports, the French disability priority card (CMI), a medical certificate and medication always in hand luggage, prescriptions that give the international non-proprietary names of the drugs, insulin storage, and emergency numbers. Marion also stresses sensory recovery time and choosing travel formats that suit you: tours, cruises, stays, slow travel or off-season trips.
Finally, Marion talks about the "superpowers" her differences give her: attention to detail, body awareness, curiosity and adaptability. Her advice: prepare, move forward step by step, and don't let disability decide for you. The live ends with a look at the upcoming Hello Mira masterclass in Medellín.
